Episode #13: Yes, Your ADHD Teen’s Emotions are “EXTRA”: You Can Help

34

Am I the only mom who didn’t realize many of my son’s emotional outbursts were symptoms of his ADHD? The doctors and psychiatrists don’t talk about it and “emotional dysregulation” isn’t even listed as a symptom of ADHD in the DSM-5.

We focus so much on the way ADHD impacts their academic performance, but emotional dysregulation takes an enormous toll on every facet of their life. So, it’s crucial that we address this issue and help them learn how to become more aware of and how to regulate these overwhelming emotions.

In this episode I’ll discuss:

  • the role emotional dysregulation plays in your ADHD teen’s world,
  • other issues that tag along with ADHD that can add to their emotional dysregulation,
  • the problems emotional dysregulation (and other ADHD symptoms) can cause for your teen, and
  • what the research says you can do to help them with their emotions and the fallout from them.
